Verse 14 of our anchor text gives us more context.
The Spirit is God’s guarantee that he will give us the inheritance he promised and that he has purchased us to be his own people.
He did this so we would praise and glorify him.
Have you ever loved something enough to preorder it before the time scheduled for it to hit the market? If you haven’t, then take out thirty minutes to watch business owners pitch to investors. The business owner convinces the investor that their business is a literal gold mine and the investor decides to throw their weight behind this because this has the capacity to expand their financial domain.
The most interesting part of this arrangement is watching a founder’s response when the investor acknowledges their efforts and announces a figure; many cry about the money they have not seen. I will possibly cry if someone was investing 750,000 Dollars in my business.
God did more than these investors; he didn’t just promise he will support your potential but invested in you when you didn’t even know you had potential.
Not only did you get chosen from the beginning, but you also get an atonement offering in Jesus giving you unrestricted access then you get the Holy Spirit searching God’s will and bringing you premium updates. Yet, God says the Holy Spirit is a down payment for what’s to come. Doesn’t that just make your toes curl and your skin tingle?
Being chosen would have been enough. Jesus was enough. The Holy Spirit is more than enough yet God says the Holy Spirit is a guarantee meaning God has more unveiling to do.
I don’t know about you but I want to wake up every morning with the excitement of a 5-year-old who has Christmas gifts waiting to be unboxed. Life is crazy and scary but I have a guarantee that
- All things will work together for my good
- The Holy Spirit will teach and bring to my memory all things God has said
- The Spirit will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears
- Nothing will separate me from the love of God
Activity
- Study the person of the Holy Spirit.
Conclusion
Your divine inheritance is fixed and guaranteed but you will never experience the joy of it if you do not know it exists and insist on it. Do you know the laws of the universe? Can you use them to regulate the earth? let me remix that verse for you – Do you know God’s promise to you? Can you use it to regulate your world?
If you must thrive on this earth, you must know what the creator of the earth has given you otherwise, you will live holed up in one corner begging God in prayer to give you what He’s already given. This means the word of the Lord must be near you even in your mouth so when you open your mouth in prayer and human conversations, only the will of God gushes out.
Live like a son. Cheers!
