I love the word ‘lavish’ as it quickly tells us what to expect – to bestow something in generous or extravagant quantities.
Years ago, a dear friend said the story of the prodigal son should have been named prodigal father as the father knew his son will squander his inheritance yet he gave it to him and still had an open arm willing to give what was left. Isn’t God thus a prodigal God by this definition? He’s always lavish towards us.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. This is reckless!
2 Corinthians 9:8 And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that always having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed;
Ephesians 3:20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,
John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly
Philipians 4:19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Psalm 23:5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Psalm 65:11 You crown the year with your bounty, and your carts overflow with abundance.
There is no place where God seems to be rationing grace, wisdom or understanding; you keep finding words like ‘all, overflow, abundant, exceeding and sufficient.
Perhaps you have been living low in grace, faith, finances, wisdom, understanding and community because you haven’t been placing a demand on the abundance clause in your inheritance.
Activity
- Make a list of everywhere you have lacked or had barely enough
- Find scriptures on God’s abundance around that problem.
P.S: Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding. Wisdom might be all you need for some of these challenges so don’t be afraid to speak wisdom over every and anything.
